Motivation is what drives us to make the things happen – but staying motivated isn’t always easy. This week, the Squared community share their tips on how to become (and stay!) motivated, and suggestions for what to do if you just can’t get into gear.

Eyes on the prize! Always remind yourself of the reward at the end of the road.

Have a great support network around you who are encouraging and uplifting.

Set measurable and achievable goals, breaking down larger goals into smaller steps where possible. Learn from challenges and celebrate small achievements.

A friend who runs slightly faster than me when we go running so I am motivated to keep going!

Make a to-do list weekly and check it daily, and make sure that the top item is "make a to-do list" so you can strike it off Monday morning to get the ball rolling!

Crossing the days off a calendar keeps me motivated on achieving goals by a certain date and how much time I have to get the job done!

By reminding myself of how I want to keep living my best life for myself with my friends and family. It sounds simple but I think the things that matter in life are that simple.

Having small, easy tasks on my to do list so I feel like I have made progress/achieved something throughout the day. They could include work related or home related tasks, ie. Wash the dishes, hang out washing, Call (x person) to discuss the tasks in an email etc.

  5. Try to see the positive side in every situation

Keep a regular work and breaks schedule. Include breakfast, coffee and outdoor walks. Start and finish remote work at normal office hours. Set daily work and fun goals and keep track.

I write down five items on my to-do list each day. These are the key items to be done, anything extra is a bonus! It helps keep me focused and accountable for what I need to get done that day.

If the sun comes out, so should you! Get some vitamin D, fresh air and change of scenery and the motivation will follow.

Set small and achievable 'stepping stone' goals each week and celebrate your successes. When compounded the stones will form the path needed to help you achieve your larger goals.

Plan and define goals and objectives, track progress, reward yourself for completing each task, and treat each setback as a learning experience. Slow and steady wins the race!

Motivation requires discipline to sustain whatever change you want to make. I make a deal with myself to keep at the change (whatever it may be) for at least 1 month; by then, the habit has formed and it's easier to keep going. Sharing your goals/aims with a friend helps keep you accountable. Having 'mini-goals' along the way makes the journey easier.

Small, achievable goals. Rewards at regular intervals. Never underestimate the power of a colourful chart/list to track your progress and keep you going!

I am a "To do list maker", my whole life is a checklist ...did I clean the toilet, windows, kitchen stove, lists for shopping, etc The motivational struggle is real even before COVID lock down. If I don't have a list, things get forgotten. Every phone has a notes feature and they all have a checklist format, its my savior, different pages for difference lists.

Wake up and feel the sun, smell the wind. Meditate for 15 mins. Grow plants from seeds and cuttings and watch new developments every morning. Mindful and be in the present, focus on every moment of your actions and mindful of negative thoughts an just thoughts which will pass. Give yourself little treats and acts of kindness. Play with pets. Look at new COVID cases going down and have absolute faith that they will.

  1. Seek out positive information, positive friends and family enhance your positive self-talk.
  2. Set you goals and regularly review them.
  3. Keep learning new things, learn from children as they never give up at any task.
  4. Keep your daily exercise regime.
  5. Don't worry about what you can't control.

Knowing that summer is around the corner and we want to go out to socialise more keeps me motivated to stay in shape.
