Cerulean

Michael Johnson, 2008

"Cerulean" by Michael Johnson

Colour is an expansive force. Applied in an accumulated surface of single notations and layered veils, the relationships between colour in my painting becomes endless. In this work the light source comes from below, illuminating hidden depths and glittering shallows like a beam of sun reaching through water. Compositionally this work is cleaved into zones, evocative of rock strata and the division between earth, sky and sea.
