Gift-giving is an important part of Lunar New Year, with presents exchanged amongst friends, family and partners. Gifts symbolise wishes for prosperity and good fortune in the New Year. It is believed that presenting gifts will bring good luck to the recipient for the forthcoming year. The exchanging of gifts also serves as a way to bridge the gap between generations and strengthen family ties.
Traditionally, Lunar New Year gifts often come in the form of food and money, or items that are symbolic of prosperity and good luck.
When purchasing gifts, opt for gifts or wrapping that are in red, yellow or gold, as these colours symbolise wealth and prosperity. Even numbers (with the exception of the number four) are great to incorporate into your gifts somehow. Consider a set that includes eight items, or perhaps eight smaller gifts.
