Why going Plastic-Free is a future worth looking forward to
Single-use plastics are designed to be used for just minutes, but they can remain in the environment for hundreds of years.
Australia consumes around 4 million tonnes of plastic every year, with approximately 3.2 million tonnes reaching end-of-life annually. Yet only around 13% is recycled, meaning the vast majority ends up in landfill or leaks into the environment.
Here are some ways to play your part in going plastic-free at Parramatta Square.
1. Stay hydrated on the go
Using an insulated water bottle can eliminate single-use plastic usage, keep your beverages cold, and save you money. A single reusable switcheroo can go a long way!
You can refill your water bottle in our End of Trip amenities at the filtered water stations.
2. Live smart, live green
Reduce and reuse. Be mindful of avoiding single-use items and making the right decisions regarding waste. Did you know food scraps in landfill creates methane? That’s 26 times worse than carbon dioxide. Go green and place all food scraps in the organics bins provided.
3. Eat and drink your way to a brighter future
Remove the need for single-use cutlery and straws and eliminate single-use plastics where possible. Try using cutlery from home, buy a travel cutlery set or reusable straws, or even borrow some of your office cutlery, but make sure you return them in squeaky clean condition to keep your office mates happy!
4. Friendly coffee habits
With some of the best coffee in the West, we understand that coffee is an important part of your morning ritual. Consider using one of our Parramatta Square reusable cups or an office mug instead.
5. Use the correct bins
Plastics are impossible to avoid in our everyday lives, but you can play your part in recycling correctly. Only place items that you know are recyclable in recycling bins. If a recycling bin is contaminated with more than 5% of non-recyclable material, it will be sent to landfill with recyclable items included. Tenants, view our A-Z Guide to learn how to sort your waste.
